Ramadan

Ramadan coincides with the date on which the Prophet Muhammad received the first revelation of the Koran, the holy book of Muslims which, among many other things, sets the boundaries in the relations between individuals and between the individual and the community.
During Ramadan, Muslims must fulfill the fast or 'sawn', one of the five pillars of Islam, considered as a method of self-purification by which they learn to have strength and patience and therefore, to know themselves.
The first crescent after the new moon is established the day of the beginning of Ramadan.
This sacred month has, besides a religious function, it purifies the body, strengthens the will and makes understand what suffer poor people.
A great month that you spend with your whole family, those sweet cakes made by mothers, harira (soup) and dates are essential in that month.
